Guided tours of the cloister, abbey church and bell tower are also available; the bell tower was built in the 11th century on a rocky outcropping in a Romanesque style typical of the Limousin area. The Museum Fernand Desmoulin exhibits the works of an academic painter and engraver who became interested in spiritualism and made from 1900 to 1902, a series of mediumistic drawings. Cloître de Cadouin Listed as Unesco world heritage site, Cadouin is a Cistercian abbey founded in 1115. The community remained active until 1790. Here, monastic austerity was the rule, and the inhabitants lived off the land without ostentation. On the contrary, the cloister, reconstructed in the late 15th century, features a surprising architectural opulence which shows the abbey’s regained power. Its sculptures with their play of light and shadow make the cloister of Cadouin a masterpiece of Flamboyant Gothic art. Evening tours in July and August. Combined ticket with Château de Biron.
