The remarkable collection of sculpted animals occupies thirteen of the fifteen metres of the shelter. Horses, bison and cervids - which overlap at places - were probably originally given a general ochre colouration as is sometimes observed in archaeological digs. Through the power and depth of its relief, which was dug out with flint pickaxes, Cap Blanc is one of the greatest masterpieces of monumental sculpture in the art of the Upper Palaeolithic. A museum area between the shelter and the exterior completes the tour.
