225 Festival des Jeux de Théâtre in Sarlat Since 1952, this festival has brought life to the old stones of the medieval city. It is the second oldest festival of its kind in France, after that of Avignon; but also the largest in the Aquitaine and one of the most renowned in all of France. Nearly all the performances - including classical and contemporary works - take place outdoors. SUMMER July/august Festival de musique du Périgord Noir in Montignac Recognised as being the great classical music festival of the Aquitaine region; every year more than twenty classical concerts are held in unique architectural and natural settings around the area. SUMMER August–october L’Eté Musical in Bergerac This eclectic selection of artists creates a sensation each year in the prestigious sites of the Bergerac area: from Monpazier to the Biron castle; from Saint-Germain to Gaugeac; from the Abbaye de Cadouin to the Grange de Lanquais; and of course in Bergerac, on the Vieux-Port at the Cloître des Récollets and in the Notre-Dame church. SUMMER July/august MIMOS, International Festival of Mime and Gesture Arts in Périgueux This is the largest festival of its kind in Europe, and the only of its kind in France. With vivid contrast and artistic variety, the performances are held both indoors and out; by day and night; for an admission charge or for free.
