214 Gourmet routes Relaxation - Shopping Entertainment Apples SOME KEY FIGURES Apples are grown in four of the region’s départements: Dordogne, Corrèze, Haute-Vienne and Creuse. The fruit is grown in 19 villages in the Dordogne for a total orchard area of 900 ha. Limousin apples are grown by 65 farmers. The local production represents some 100,000 tons. AOP Pomme du Limousin marks a particular variety of apples: Golden Delicious. This species is characterised by a slightly elongated shape, a calibre of at least 65 mm, a white, firm flesh, and a crunchy, juicy texture that is not floury. Its flavour features a balance between sweetness and acidity. Where to find them: Directly on the farm by following 'Route de la Pomme du Limousin', in supermarkets, at farms and on markets. Along the ‘Route de la Pomme du Limousin’ AOP La ‘Route de la Pomme du Limousin’ offers free tours of orchards and cooperatives on Mondays from June to August.
