188 With its geologic features and geographic characteristics, the Dordogne offers a network of large ponds principally situated in the northern part of the Périgord (in La Double and the Nontron area), including a few very large ponds spanning 20 to 70 ha (La Jemaye, St Esthèphe, La Coquille, and others). The rivers that crisscross the department are also numerous, and you'll be surprised at their piscicultural richness and environmental diversity. Among the largest waterways of the area are: the Dordogne (178 km), Isle (150 km), Dronne (170 km), Auvézère (78 km), Vézère (78 km) and Bandiat (28 km) - this last one being small but abundant in fish. Freshwater aquaculture is also an activity that you'll find in this area. Each pond has its own type of fishing and fish, and you can enjoy fishing there without a permit. To get detailed information on fishing holidays in the Dordogne: 5 specialised guides employed by the fishing federation are available to advise you.
